The 35th Negros Trade Fair Embraces The Digital Age

The Negros Trade Fair is proudly the country’s longest running provincial trade fair happening each year in Metro Manila. It has been 36 years since the first Negros Trade Fair was held in Makati, Metro Manila in 1985. This year, the Negros Trade Fair is going online with the launch of the Negros Trade Fair online marketplace and e-commerce site which will run from May 29 to June 30, 2021. The online marketplace is an e-commerce website created by the Association of Negros Producers (ANP) featuring the best products and services that Negros has to offer.  It will highlight the culture, lifestyle, land, history and stories behind many of its traditions.

The e-commerce site will be a platform for small to medium scale businesses to showcase a selection of products created with skilled craftsmanship and a taste of renowned Negrense cuisine. Sellers from various sectors such as natural and organic food, garments, fashion accessories, furniture, décor, houseware, agriculture and tourism represent the industries which provide for and sustain the people of Negros.

The Negros Trade Fair will also launch an on-site selling event in Bacolod City at a new location  aptly named The HUB. The on-ground trade fair will be open to the public from May 1 to June 4, 2021. The HUB will showcase quality Negrense-made products and will serve as a center for entrepreneurship for the province.

The Negros Trade Fair also celebrates the dynamic partnerships formed over the years with the Provincial Government of Negros, Governor Eugenio “Bong” Lacson, Association of Negros Producers, Department of Tourism, Department of Trade and Industry, private business sectors, sponsors, and media partners, who collectively share the common goal to promote the province and strengthen small and medium enterprises in Negros.

THE Association of Negros Producers (ANP) through the 26th Bulawan Awards recognized outstanding local producers from six major industry sectors at the closing rites the annual event held at Robinsons Place Bacolod on Tuesday.

For fashion and garments sector, Vivo Handicrafts advanced as this year’s winner for Bags category. Kiculo Crafts and Saturn Arts and Fashion were first and second runners-up, respectively.

K’arte’en Handicrafts Souvenirs won in the Fashion Jewelry category, along with Masate Arts Collection and Chievs Stones and Crystals as runners-up.

Ping’s Knitwear bagged the major award for Garments category. Reyes House of Piña and Association of Negros Silk Producers were named first and second runners-up, respectively.

For furniture and furnishing sector, Tumandok Crafts Industries was adjudged as champion in the Furniture category, with Golden Arts and Furnishing as first runner-up, and Art Energy, second runner-up.

First place in the Luminary category is the 4J Exclusive, with Tumandok Crafts Industries in second place.

For gifts, decorations and houseware (GDH) sector, Tumandok Crafts Industries was again named first place. It also placed third in Home Furnishing category. Golden Arts and Furnishings was in second place.

In Table Tops category, Silay Export Inc. was in first place; Negros Oriental Arts and Heritage, second; and Tumandok Crafts Industries, third.
ANP also recognized local producers who excel in the natural and organics sector.

Tribal Miracle Oil from Dumaguete City bagged the first place in the Non-food category; Mamabel’s Home Garden, second; Herbanext Laboratory Inc., third.

For Food category, Herbanext Laboratory Inc. advanced as first and second place winner, along with VTN Food Products, which was in third place.

In the tourism sector, particularly in the Novelty and Souvenirs category, Saturn Arts and Fashion bagged the major award while Azatri Souvenirs Inc. and Liane Souvenirs were second and third placers.

The food sector is divided into three categories – deli, sugar-based, and flour-based.

Deli category winners were Ading’s Gourmet, first; and T-Flavors, second and third; Sugar-based category - Sugarlandia Barquillos, first; El Ideal Bakery, second; and Shiena’s Homemade Products, third; Flour-based category - Sugarlandia Barquillos, first; El Ideal Bakery, second and third.

Maxima Madera, chairperson of the 26th Bulawan Awards, said the activity recognizes the innovativeness of Negrense producers.
It is also a venue for showcasing unique and truly Negros products that will further invite both local and foreign tourists to come to the province, Madera added.

“Every year we really have to come up with new designs and concepts not only for local, but also for international markets,” she said. “In terms of innovation, local producers are really challenged (in terms of) the availability of raw materials and high labor cost.”
The 26th Bulawan Awards, themed “Biodiversity in Tourism,” is anchored on the efforts of the provincial government to promote tourism while also promoting the protection and conservation of environment.

Aside from the awarding of outstanding producers, this year’s event also includes a week-long Bulawan Fair, where about 30 producers from different industry sectors displayed and sold their products at the mall.

“This is also a way of encouraging more entrepreneurs, especially the new ones, to join the association and participate in various events it organizes,” Madera said.
