Victorias Sardines Sold Out For 27th Negros Trade Fair
Decades ago in Negros Island, when people say sardines, what comes to mind are not the famous brands like 555 or Mega Sardines but the local favorite Victorias Sardines. Victorias Sardines used to fill the shelves of local grocery stores of Bacolod and makes usual appearances in Rustan’s or Uniwide but as of late, the canned product has become a rare commodity as most of it are exported outside the country. It is said that it is easier to find a can of Victorias Sardines at Asian Stores in the US, than in Bacolod.
To the delight of the resident Negrenses in Manila, Victorias Milling Company, the makers of Victorias Sardines, opened a booth at the Negros Trade Fair in Rockwell Tent. Negrenses lined up not just to buy a few cans but boxes of this hometown favorite and not long after, the famed Spanish Sardines was out of stock. Soon enough, even the Canned Bangus was also out of stock. Though there are some other Victorias products, it is the familiar and exquisite flavors of Victorias Sardines that is missed by all Negrenses.
